Mostafavi Urges For Strong Media Support

Kabul (BNA) Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, Sayeda Mojgan Mostafavi in the Journalists’ Security and Freedom of expression conference, held by the Swedish Embassy and the European Union Agency here in Kabul, urged for strong media support, a statement said the other day. The deputy minister emphasized for full support to the country’s media under the sensitive status quo and said any Muslims should support freedom of media as ‘the holy Islam was not against media but the main supporter of meditation and thought’. In the conference, as described by Swedish Ambassador, Mr. Andres Sjoberg to have been held for drawing attention to the problems faced by the journalists and freedom of media, Prof. Mostafavi thanked them for the move and said, “Media violating the national interests and acting against culture and religion of the Afghan people would face censor.” According to the statement, Swedish ambassador said journalists and the media workers are non-military targets and any plan to attack them would be called against the international laws. The deputy minister, likewise said seven commissions would be set to investigate the media problems and provide them with facilities in different fields, the statement added. The European Union charge d’affaires to Kabul Stefan Huber spoke relating to the issue and condemned attack on the media outlets and freedom of media, the statement said. Other participants also spoke about the journalists security and challenges faced by the media persons, focusing on media activities and the self-censorship. The conference was attended by up to 75 journalists and media workers from around the country.
