ANA Strength Reaches 195,000 In 2012

Kabul (BNA) Defense minister spokesman Zahir Azimi said yesterday that the strength of Afghanistan national army had reach 195,000 in 2012.
The troops, he added had been equipped with advanced US mad armored personnel carrier MSFV and the efforts are underway to equip the air force of the country.
In last year, the national army had led 80 percent of the operations and in 2012 the national army had resumed the responsibility for conducting night operations and Afghan women soldiers search Afghan suspected women during the operation without involving foreigners, he added.
Azimi also added that Bagram prison is under Afghan army control and the security transition process in on track, adding 75 percent of the people of Afghanistan has been covered by Afghan national army and the security has been improved in that areas.
Thousands of operational had been conducted last year during which thousands of enemies had been killed, detained or injured.
Azimi also admitted that 1056 personnel of national army had been martyred throughout 2012 and 75 percent of them due to mine blasts.
He also said some 50,000 foreign soldiers have left Afghanistan.
