AJC, Wolesi Jirga Appreciate Journalists

Kabul (BNA) Dozens of government and private media journalists have been appreciated in a ceremony by Lower House of parliament and Afghanistan country-wide journalists’ council here in Kabul. In the ceremony, head of the country’s journalists’ council Hafizullah Barakzai spoke and congratulated World Speech Freedom to all journalists of the country and world, recalling those journalists who had lost their lives in this way. He asked the government to financially support journalists. Afterwards, message of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was read out by cultural advisor to President Asadullah Ghazanfar. In his message, President Ghani said that the government Afghanistan would fully support speech freedom and journalists.
In the ceremony, representative of people in parliament Obaidullah Barakzai in his speech regarded role of journalists as significant in current situation of the country and called journalists as second power, praising journalists for their sacrifices in various conditions in the country. Afterwards, head of commission for supporting journalists’ fund Asif Wardak spoke and said, “Journalists should prevent from publishing reports creating prejudice and discrimination as prejudice is in fact evil”. He stressed on unity and solidarity of journalists in the country. At the end of the ceremony, journalists’ council and Lower House of parliament granted letters of appreciation to dozens of journalists.
