UN Secretary-General Calls for Urgent Reopening of Rafah Crossing and Unimpeded Humanitarian Access to Gaza

KABUL (BNA) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the immediate reopening of the Rafah crossing and unimpeded humanitarian access to all parts of Gaza. The Secretary-General emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in the region and the release of all hostages.

Secretary-General Guterres took to his official social media page to express his concerns, stating, “I am calling for the immediate reopening of the Rafah crossing and unimpeded humanitarian access to all of Gaza.” He further highlighted the escalation of military activities by the Israeli army in and around Rafah, which has hindered humanitarian efforts and exacerbated the already dire situation.

The UN chief reiterated the importance of respecting and protecting civilians, emphasizing that they should not be subjected to harm or forced displacement. Reports indicate that the Israeli attacks on Rafah have resulted in the displacement of nearly 450,000 Palestinians.

International media outlets have reported heavy confrontations between Palestinian fighters and Israeli occupation forces in eastern Rafah, highlighting the volatile situation on the ground.
