Deputy PM Hanafi Urges Global Cooperation for Development Projects in Afghanistan


KABUL (BNA) Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs of Afghanistan, and Jorge Moreira da Silva, the Executive Director of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in a meeting both sides emphasized the necessity of global collaboration and cooperation in implementing development projects in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Jorge Moreira da Silva expressed his satisfaction with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s support and cooperation in aligning the projects of UNOPS.

He highlighted that UNOPS is currently the largest program of the United Nations, focusing on social assistance, infrastructure development, and the irrigation of agricultural lands within Afghanistan.

Da Silva further elaborated on the positive impact of UNOPS projects, stating that over 1.3 million families in 30 provinces and 90 districts of Afghanistan have already benefited from social assistance programs. He also mentioned the organization’s aid to earthquake victims in Herat, where houses were provided for those affected.

In response, Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi expressed gratitude for the activities of UNOPS and the assistance provided by the United Nations to the people of Afghanistan.

He affirmed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s full support for UNOPS projects and the provision of necessary facilities to adapt and execute them effectively.
