Consolidation Work on Minaret of Jam To Be Started Soon, Minister Zuhair

Kabul (BNA)  Acting Minister of Information and Culture Mohammad Tahir Zuhair in a meeting with cultural representative of UNESCO and representative of ‘Aliph’ organization has asked for starting the consolidation work on Ghor’s Minaret of Jam as soon as possible.

In the meeting held via webinar attended by director of archaeology Noor Agha Noori, director of preservation and restoration of historic monuments Eng. Abdul Ahad Abasi and consolidation of MoI’s 012 unit, acting minister of information and culture praised the international union for preservation of cultural heritages in war-zone areas and UNESCO for their cooperation.

Acting minister of information and culture asserted that UNESCO has not taken any practical action in connection with consolidation work on Minaret of Jam in the past two years, while the minaret has not been in good condition, adding that the ministry of information and culture was asking to deliver its practical program for consolidation work on the minaret in a meeting to be held in 10 days so that practical protective work on the minaret should be started in spring of the new solar year.

In the meeting, the cultural representative of UNESCO promised of starting practical consolidation work on the minaret within three coming months.

Meanwhile, representative of the ‘Aliph’ organization in his speech asserted that his organization has worked on 12 projects in preservation and renovation of the country’s cultural heritages and historic monuments, adding that it provided $2 million assistance for the preservation of Ghor’s minaret.
