Historical, Ancient Sites of Laghman Require Urgent Attention

Kabul (BNA) Laghman hosts large number of historical, ancient minarets, monuments sites and cultural relics that are manifestation of its old history and culture, in an interview with chief of Laghman provincial department of Information and culture, Faizunallh Patan said.
“At the present about 50 ancient sites and historical relics have been registered in this province out of which seven sites have been registered by the MoIC, but most of them are at very bad conditions located in Alingar district and include Qala-y-e-Saraj, Shrine of Mehterlam baba, shrine of Noorlam baba, Grave of Abdul Aziz Khan, Langar Khana, Pool of Mehterlam”, Patan added.
Talking on Qala Saraj, Patan said, “It is one of remnants of late king Habibullah Khan Rule and once it was symbol of architect. Today its wall has been destroyed. There are large numbers of sport clubs and associations are operating. Inside this Qala, a number of illegal buildings have been built and it was used as a military fortification and now it’s open to everybody. Some times before due to efforts of this department, a technical delegation of the MoIC visited the site and made a survey. According to an official letter of the MoIC, the mapping and projection of the Qala have been finished and has been sent to MoIC Policy and Planning Department for approval of budget and upon budge approval, its rebuilding would be started.
Patan went on to say, Zarghondi Hill is another ancient rich cultural site in this province located on the western slope of Mehterlam provincial capital city. The local people have built large number of illegal houses despite of written and repeated complaints of our department to local authorities as well as the MoIC and worst of all that house construction is still going on.
Patan added, Shrine of Mehterlam Baba has remained from the era of Sultan Mohmood Ghaznavi located in the western part of the city. Not only locals, but people from other parts of the country also visit it and hold picnic in its garden. Inside the compound of this shire there are monuments of graves of acknowledged dignitaries including grave of late Sardar Mohammad Aziz Khan father of late Sardar Daud Khan, other family member of Sardars, grave of national hero Ghazi Mohammad Shah Khan BabakarKheyl.
The rebuilding of pool, Langar Khana, Masjid, guest house, Toilets and guards’ room was started in Apr 2015 at an expedition of Afs 12.380325.
Dadi Abad is another historical fort locates in the vicinity of Mehterlam city remained from the British invasion.
History narrates that a number of men, women and children who were captured by Ghazi Mohammad Shah Khan BabakarKheyl, the father-in-law of Ghazi Mohammad Akbar Khan, were kept in it.
Patan mentioned that Mirak Ghondi or Mirak Hill located on the southern parts of Laghman along Kabul-Jalal Abad highway is another ancient place.
Locals tried to occupy it and built illegal houses in it, but it was prevented due to efforts of our department and cooperation of Qarghayee district governor. Mohammad Nader Mokhawar the head of culture and tourism branch of Laghman provincial department of information and culture said, “We visit all these historical sites time and again and in case of any problem, we contact with concerned authorities. Early 1393 the head of information and culture department and provincial governor of Laghman met minister of information and culture and warned him an chaotic situation of Laghman historical sites.
This Qala has an area of 7 or 8 Jerib land. The local people always try to destroy its compound walls and change it to arable land.
According to Mokhawar, occupation of Zarghondai is still going on by local powerful people and they have shared this issue with security authorities.
He said, we hope with the appointment of new provincial governor Abdul Jabar Naimi, essential attention would be focused for rehabilitation of historical sites.
The new governor visited Qala Saraj and Zarghondi and asked cooperation of the MoIC.
