Statement of Chief Executive Office

Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive Office in a statement has said that no decision had been adopted council of ministers’ session in connection with cancellation or limitation of civil freedoms in particular the right of gatherings and participation of the people in peaceful and legal protests in the country.
Reports have been recently released that one of council of ministers’ sessions has obliged government institutions to review issue of those participating in protest demonstrations held on 11th and 12th November in Kabul.
Based on the rumor, the decision was considered as effort towards limitation of civil freedoms and against Afghanistan constitution.
The government of Afghanistan is committed to observation of the country’s constitution, democracy, civil freedoms including the right of holding gatherings and peaceful protest demonstration in the country.
The government is continually trying to pave the way for guaranteeing and implementing such freedoms, the statement said. In one of the council of ministers’ session, the issue of participation of government employees in working hours and participation of security forces personnel wearing military uniforms in demonstrations has been discussed. For enforcement of labor law and priorities of delivering service, council of ministers has instructed the people that government employees should prioritize their formal works and service to the people according to the country’s laws and security forces personnel should refrain from wearing military uniforms within participating in demonstrations, the statement added.
