Kabul (BNA) In a suicide attack carried out by so-called IS group in the west of Kabul, at least 27 have been killed and 64 others injured.
According to sources, the attack happened at the Baqir ul Olum mosque while a religious ceremony was going on. Still, the exact number of casualties is not clear, but the Kabul police spokesperson confirmed the death of 27 and injuring of 35. The suicide attack has followed widespread reactions by the government officials, national and international organizations, US embassy in Afghanistan, Shiite Ulama Council and social networks’ users. In a statement released by the presidential office, President Ghani has strongly condemned the suicide attack in the strongest terms and called attack on holy places ‘clear enmity with Islam and the people of Afghanistan’. The president also ordered officials of the hospitals to do what they can do in treatment of those injured in the deadly incident. Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah while condemning the attack, called the perpetrators as ‘terrorists’, stressing that they always target the innocents.
Dr. Abdullah also added that such attacks cannot create disunity among the Afghan people and the perpetrators will pay for their deadly actions.
Likewise, Second Vice President, Sarwar Danesh in a statement released by his office said, ‘the recent suicide attack in Kabul was neither the first and will not be the last.’ He also asked the people and in-charges of the religious places to take part in ensuring security. ‘There is no doubt that the security entities are responsible to protect the citizens in any corner of the country, but the people cooperation is also a must with them,’ Danesh further said. In another statement released on Monday, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemned the attack at the Baqir ul Olum mosque in Kabul that killed and injured dozens. The statement also added that attack on religious places is against the Islamic law and has no room in any religion. Amnesty International has also condemned the attack and called it a ‘brutal action’. Furthermore, Afghanistan’s Human Rights Commission in its fresh reaction called the attack a ‘war crime’. Officials of the commission said that all the victims of the attack were civilians. The Shiite Ulama Council while flaying the attack asked the government to punish those behind the incident. A huge number of social networks’ users have also condemned the attack and called it an unjustifiable action.
