Kabul (BNA) Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled has signed an agreement with Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute, aimed at providing vocational trainings to 1,000 youth.
Officials of the ministry said based on this contract, 60 percent of the youth would be provided with job opportunities. Acting Minister of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled, Faizullah Zaki called the step the start of a process towards youths’ professionalism. “In compare with a large number of unemployed youth, 1000 is a small amount. But this is the start of a positive step and we hope the process to be widened in upcoming years,” he further said. The ministry says dormitories have been considered to the youth from Kabul, Laghman and Helmand provinces who have been selected to attend the vocational trainings.
Expressing concern over unemployment rate in the country, the acting minister said the government would make effort to overcome the challenge. A survey which was released by the ministry of labor and social affairs last year suggested that there are 23 percent eligible people for work in the country who are unfortunately unemployed. Furthermore, Hosai Rashan, the in-charge of institute for technical and vocational trainings stressed on transparency of the process, hoping that at the end of the process, the youth to be provided with jobs in and abroad. It is merit to mention that there are a huge number of youth unemployed in the country—a move which led them to resort to narcotics’ addiction. Lutfullah, a young boy who is looking for a job in Kabul said, I want a job, but I could not still succeed to find any, however, the government is responsible to pave the ground for job opportunities to us.
I really suffer unemployment and want to get rid of it as soon as possible, he added.
Nasir Ahmad, another unemployed youth said, “I hope we can also be provided with vocational trainings which have been conducted by the ministry of labor and social affairs.” Otherwise, the youth problems would get increased by each passing day and they would leave the country for abroad to find a better life, he added. At the same time, the experts stressed on solving unemployment challenge in Afghanistan and they asked the government to make a special program and pave the ground for job opportunities. Unemployment crisis has recently faced the people with many problems, as they have always asked the government to pay attention to their problems in the country.
