Felting; Unique & Ancient Industry In Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) The art of felting has nearly 5,000 year history in Afghanistan and people in our country have been associated with this art since the ancient time.
The cotton is one of the products which comes from the animals and is used largely in various fields in all countries of the world particularly in handcraft industry. Felt has always been used a unique soft and warm cloth in the past and people in remote regions and in the villages were preferring to wear cloths made of felt and face the harsh waves of cold weather in winters. Felt is prepared in different shapes and sizes and with different colors and decorations. Afghanistan is a mountainous country and still modern means of transportation have not been expanded in the remote regions of the country and people use animals as means of transportation between the villages and towns and the felt play crucial role in preparing different types of packsaddles for animals to carry the goods. Felting industry is basically conducted in the southern regions of Afghanistan while carpet industry is famous in the northern parts of the country. Overall, handicrafts and ornaments have been two important aspects of business activities in the villages of Afghanistan and expansion of the industry could help the villagers boost their economic development.
