Kabul (BNA) The Department of Preservation and Restoration of Historical Monuments of the Ministry of Information and Culture has started studies to consolidate the fifth minaret of Herat, which is on the verge of collapse, according to BNA.
Engineer Abdul Ahad Abbasi, Director of Preservation and Restoration of Historical Monuments of the Ministry of Information and Culture, said that they are currently in the area of the fifth minaret of Herat with the technical group of Aga Khan Cultural Foundation to study and step up efforts for the minaret consolidation, Bakhtar Information Agency (BIA) quoted.
Abbasi added that during these studies, the fifth minaret of Herat will be photographed, filmed and scanned by a total station and special cameras, as well as samples would be taken from the minaret for further studies, according to the agency. The director of preservation and restoration of historical monuments noted that these samples would be studied in laboratories and to determine the strength of materials used in the minaret.
He added that studies to strengthen the fifth minaret of Herat will be completed by early next week, after which the minaret will be consolidated, according to the Agency.
It is worth mentioning that the minaret Herat was built during the Timurid Empire and is about 6 centuries old and is one of the most important ancient monuments in the country.
