FM Rabbani, UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Discuss Ongoing Situation

Kabul (BNA) Minister of Foreign Affairs Salahuddin Rabbani met Tadamichi Yamamoto, UN secretary general’s newly appointed deputy special representative for Afghanistan here yesterday, a MoFA statement said.
At the outset, the UN representative reviewed the country’s political and economic gains and praised the National Unity Governments’ strategy in fight against corruption. Congratulating the newly appointed UN representative to Afghanistan on his new mission, the Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed the government’s achievements, commitments on electoral reform and the fight against corruption. Meanwhile the both sides also discussed preparation for the upcoming Warsaw and Brussels meetings on Afghanistan.
According to another report, the Minister of Foreign affairs met Mohammad Reza Bahrami, the Iranian ambassador to Kabul here yesterday, a MoFA statement said.
The Iranian ambassador briefed FM Rabbani on following up of the Iranian consulate’s issue in Herat and the problem raised with the city’s municipality, asking the Minister of Foreign Affairs to help solve the risen issue. The Minister of Foreign Affairs assured the ambassador that the issue would be followed by the organ concerned and the documents of the consulate would be evaluated for taking the final decision. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also noted that the Iranian consulate needs to be established within an agreement, so that to ease the Afghan government to take decision on the same establishment of cultural center in Iran.
