100 Artifacts Returned

Wednesday, February 27, 2013
Kabul (BNA) More than 1000 artifacts have been returned from Britain during the current year of 1391, head of national museum Omara Khan Masoudi said yesterday.
Out of these, 215 are historic coins dates to Koshanian civilization and the remaining are busts, status and other items.
According to Masoudi, 70 percent of Afghan artifacts had been looted during the civil strife and since 2007 some 9000 relics have been returned with the support of Britain, US. Denmark, Swiss, Norway, and Germany and are kept in the national museum.
He also noted that the ministry for information and culture has been trying to check illegal digging; however, still the malpractice is going on in some areas to take away the relics.
The national museum was established in 1918 during the King Amanullah and was badly damaged in 1990’s factional fighting.
