Afghan Women’s Challenging Life

Tuesday February 28, 2017

Kabul (BNA) The daily routine of Afghan women differs from the daily of the Afghan men immensely.
The men are expected to work in order to provide money and shelter for the family, whereas, the Afghan females are left to do housework and perform other basic tasks throughout the day.
The women of Afghanistan are not permitted to leave the house if not under their husband’s consent.  If their husband approved of them leaving the house, they were able to buy fresh products which they then used to cook supper for the family.  Since long, the Afghan women try to use their free times and work inside their houses to earn some money. Some of them use their livestock to make dairies, etc. and some others work on handicrafts, particularly they weave, sew and in some areas, make rugs and felt.   Even though, the Afghan women are faced with limitations in some areas, but 38 percent of them are active on economic viewpoint.
Belqis, an Afghan woman who lost her husband ten years ago, has since then tried to learn a profession in order to ensure her family’s livelihoods.
She said, ‘I have learned hacking and finally could find a work in a factory. Now, I work with my children to earn money and ensure our house’s expenditures.’
Malalai, another woman said, ‘I am busy with tailoring and mostly work at my house. I have trained many children in this field and have recently got the membership of a handicraft group related to the ministry of rural rehabilitation and urban development.’  She added, this is a pleasure that when I participant in an exhibition, I have good achievements. Whatever I sew, can be sold with good price, she went on to say. Most of the women in urban areas, are the men of their families who work hard to earn money.
Amina, a woman in Kandahar said that my husband was not able to afford our family’s expenditures, thus, I work beside him to better fulfil our needs. She added that I am an illiterate woman and I wish I was literate. “I work hard on my children so they complete their education and don’t face such a situation we did in future,” she went on to say. As it was mentioned in Women National Program, the women should be encouraged to work in order to earn more money and can better handle their life affairs.
