On the Advent Of 6th Jaddi: Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) On the 6th Jaddi 1358, former Soviet Union forces invaded Afghanistan and up to 120,000 Soviet forces entered the country to suppress the Afghan people, but it was a great mistake which was committed by the Soviet Union leaders and strategists.
Following the invasion, the brave Afghan national solidly reacted against the intruders and offered all sorts of sacrifices to defend their territorial integrity, national sovereignty, religious and social values and independence.
The Russian intruders suffered tragically and tolerated massive financial and human casualties and after a decade long invasion, they realized that suppression of Afghan people weren’t an easy task and they started escaping Afghanistan.
Despite, the Soviet forces were armed with latest technology and weaponries, but they weren’t able to face the firm determination of a nation with firm faith and national unification.
The Soviet Union had also put another 20,000 troops beyond the borders of Afghanistan to enter the country in case of need.
Financially the war become beyond capacity of union and estimations show that their military supply expenditures had reached to three hundred million dollars on the monthly basis and this figure was much higher when the Russians wanted to evacuate the country.
The invasion not only affected the Soviet Union but it also posed catastrophic loses to Afghanistan financially, economically, politically and socially. The invasion devastated the basic infrastructures of the country and forces millions others to be displaced while thousands others were killed and wounded over while combating Russian occupations forces. It’s quite important to mention that the invasion also led to separation of Soviet Union states and collapse of the communism. The Afghan nation proved that firm faith and determination never demoralize a nation to sough allegiance to the intruders and invaders. The history will always remember the revolution which the Afghan nation against the Soviet occupation.
