Kabul (BNA) The authorities of Electoral Reforms Commission (ERC) said that they have started preliminary activities and the Afghan people would be witnessing achievements in this direction in few days.
Talking to media chairwoman of ERC Shukria Barakzay said the activities of ERC will not be political but based on national and international commitment; it will bring serious reforms in electoral system. Those who made mistake in the last election and led the country towards crisis, would not pass through the filter of this commission. She pointed out the ERC will be working on the past reforms which were creating challenges for Afghanistan elections. She asked all institutions not to use the ERC as an instrument to achieve their political goals. The electoral free institutions welcomed establishment of ERC, said bringing reforms in electoral system void of any political affiliations is one of the basic measures to have a transparent election adaptable to the wishes of the Afghan people. Afghanistan Election Foundation recommends transparency and democratically short term election, preparing list of voters, amending of work method and changing of structure of election commission as essential solutions. Emphasizing on reforms of electoral system the house said, it is the expectation of the Afghan people that the electoral system of the country be reformed as quickly as possible. Because if essential reforms are not inserted in election commissions the people confidence will be eliminated to upcoming election.
A number of political experts addressing reforms of election system as one of the essential steps for upcoming parliamentary elections emphasized, the Afghan people no longer want an election with fraud and violation. These experts warn that if reforms are not inserted in electoral commissions soon, our countrymen and women fear to attend the upcoming election. A political expert Ali Rahmani said as the leaders of the NUG announced in the first days of the power transition said that reforms in election systems is one of their priorities, now they should put this word into action and show their honesty to people that they are loyal to their wishes. Reforms in election system should be brought soon and delay is not in the interests of future election but delay makes the people faithless to election. A number of citizens believe that reforms in electoral system is one of the people demands to have a sound election, because the last election was full of challenges and serious problems. Therefore reform should be brought soon, so the upcoming parliamentary election is organized in an atmosphere void of violation and fraud and people regain their lost confidence.
Feraidon one of the citizens said the Afghan people have so far experienced three elections, if serious reforms are not brought in election laws and system, people would not attend the parliamentary election and people want a fraud free election. People welcomed creature of ERC by the NUG leaders and want the members of ERC to complete their mission as soon as possible.
