Kabul (BNA) Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with the president of Islamic Republic of Iran on the sidelines of the seventieth UN General Assembly the other day in New York. During this meeting both sides discussed to strengthen friendly relations between two countries and reaffirmed to extend cooperation on the areas of security drugs issues in the region, especially in the border areas between Afghanistan and Iran. Chief executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said, the current security problems are the result of the security responsibility being transferred from NATO and US to Afghan defense and security forces. He added; the transfer of security responsibilities to Afghan security and defense forces have on the one hand caused our security forces to independently fight against terrorism and seeks to crush enemies. And on the other hand, the entire burden of the war on terror which is a complex dimensioned and proxy war to fall on the shoulders of our defense soldiers. This factor resulted in some problems to emerge in few areas but the overall performance of our courageous soldiers against terrorism to be praised. In this meeting Chief executive of country, emphasized on strengthening regional cooperation of the two friendly countries and neighbors and fight against common threats in the region in order to ensure security and stability, counter narcotics, control and contain extremism and terrorism.
Iranian President also emphasized on the strengthening of regional cooperation to address common regional issues. In particular, on common issues between the two friendly and neighboring countries, Iran and Afghanistan was a serious need. Also he stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran will do everything in power in this respect. The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, called security and stability in Afghanistan as a serious concern to Iran and added, Iran’s aim is to find an end to the war in the region as soon as possible so that no man in our region would be a victim of terrorism and extremism.
