President Karzai Meets Elders, Helmand Government Officials

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai met with some ulama, representatives of Helmand at the National Assembly and provincial council.
At the meeting in which governor of Helmand was also president and held at the presidential palace, they discussed security situation especially after withdrawal of foreign forces and the cooperation and unity among the Helmand people.
The elders also shared their environmental problems, and emphasized on national unity and bringing about of trust between the government and the people, saying that their problems largely emanates from outside interferences.
The problems noted by them included shortage of hospitals and schools and they asked for improvement in education there.
They added that withdrawal of foreign forces from Helmand has led to improvements in security in the province.
They noted that government armed opposition making use of poppy cultivation there and asked the government to prevent this practice and encourage the farmers to adopt alternate crops like cotton and wheat on their land.
The president told the elders to strengthen their unity adding that you can with unity restore peace and stability in the province.  He also urged the elders of the province to encourage the Taliban who are Afghans to return to their country, put an end to war and relieve themselves from the domination of aliens.
He assured them that their problems will be addressed by the related organs.
