President Ghani Confers State Medal on Afghan Ambassador to UK

Kabul (BNA President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani conferred Ghazi Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan state medal on Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, the Afghan ambassador to United Kingdome here yesterday, the presidential press office statement said.

During a ceremony held in the Gulkhana Palace, the president said Dr. Zalmai Rassoul deserved the medal for his hard and fruitful works in diplomatic areas during his effective representation from the country, according to the statement.

“This is the place of pride that an honest Afghan offspring is being appreciated. Dr. Zalmai Rassoul along with his father, Abdul Qayum who was a Public Health Minister, had made indefatigable efforts for the establishment of the legal system,” said the president as quoted by the statement.

The president said the efforts and services of Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, since his springtime, was for the creation of freedom and political movement, in order to help Afghanistan, reach democratic stability.

“After the invasion of the former Soviet Union of Afghanistan, the efforts and role of Dr. Zalmai Rassoul was very clear in the establishment of the Loya Jirga, which opened and eased the way for the Bon Conference,” said the president.

He has made effective role in the national discussions, and this is why the government commended his efforts, said the country’s president.

Afghan ambassador to UK, Dr. Zalmay Rassoul thanked the trust of the country’s president for conferring the medal, said since his springtime has worked for the country. “I would continue serving the country until I am alive and see working for my country a national obligation.”
