Bamyan Compete 49 Countries For World Creative Cities Network Membership

Kabul (BNA) Praised for its bright historical background, containing ancient relics from different eras, Bamyan is nominated for membership of the world network of creative cities. In a telephone contact with The Kabul Times, head of Bamyan provincial department of information and culture, Kabir Dadras said the ancient province of Bamyan has met all membership criterions of the world network of creative cities and is expected to be a membership candidate for the network of the world creative cities by the UNESCO and that network from among 49 cities. Eight historical relics including a cultural scene, the two giant destroyed statues have been registered by UNESCO as the danger posed world heritage. The ancient city of Gholghola, city of Zuhak, and Kafer Qala are also among these cities. Beside that Dara Foladi was for the first time registered as the first protected natural area by national environment department. Dadras went on to day, the handicrafts and popular artistic products of this province have been nominated and it is expected that Bamyan will be one of the winners of this universal competition. The advantages of candidate membership of the world network of creative cities are more than the advantage of selection of Bamyan as the first cultural capital of SAARC.
Expressing pleasure on the nomination of Bamyan as a member of the world network of creative cities, the local cultural professionals and officials said selection of this province as a member of the world network of creative cities would leave great positive impacts on the people living conditions. Latif Azimi in charge of trade branch of Bamyan tourists union said selection of Bamyan as the member of the world network of creative cities would introduce local cultural, natural products of this province to the world people and sends a message of peace and reconciliation for the people of Afghanistan to the world people and leaves useful impacts on improvement of tourism, cultural exchange and improving of people’s living conditions as due to its ancient specifications Bamyan was as the first capital of SAARC. According to local authorities Bamyan membership in this network introduces Afghanistan national handicrafts to the world markets and improves our national economy. With this membership protection of Afghanistan historical relics will be at the top focus of the world community and Afghanistan will be the first Asian country that one of its cities gain membership of the world network of creative cities, and there are strong hopes that following this membership more aids will be granted by US, Australia and Europe to this province. Following the decision of the UNESCO 170th meeting of executive board, the world network of creative cities was established in Oct 2004. This UNESCO stop was for creation of cultural diversity of the world creative cities. While still people are living in caves in Bamyan province like the era of Buddha and pre-historic ages, and indicates one of the outstanding specifications of ancient civilization and peak of poverty and destitution.
