Kabul Residents Concerning Over Increasing Armed Robberies, Kidnappings

Kabul (BNA) A number of Kabul residents expressed their serious concern over increasing armed robberies and kidnappings in the city.
Halima, a resident of Qala-e-Mosa of Kabul says day and night robberies happen in our area where properties of some houses have been recently stolen. “Last night our precious carpets and rugs were stolen and there is nobody to hear us”, Halima said. Mustafa, another resident of Kabul and has a bitter experience in this regard said, “I left office for home and took a taxi whose driver picked up two guys who were both robbers. In mid-way, the two guys first hit me a hard punch and told me anything you have give us. When they took my money, mobile phone and wrist-watch, they opened the car’s door and threw me out of the car.” Meanwhile, a number of Kabul residents have stopped to stay late during night and said that they cannot walk over in the city after evening time because they are afraid of armed robberies, kidnappings, murdering and other crimes increasing recently in many parts of the city.
Kabul University lecturer Najibullah Mahmoud considered recent increasing of armed robberies and kidnappings in the city as poverty and unemployment, adding that poverty and unemployment were the main causes of growing insecurity and armed robberies which have changed to a big threat for Kabul residents. He asserted that police districts’ chiefs should make further effort and pay full attention to counter crimes in the city, or the people will no longer live in a secure environment. He says besides terrorist attacks, armed robberies and kidnappings are growing in the city and have changed to big problems threatening our people, asking the government to put pressure on security organs to prevent from armed robberies and kidnappings. Meanwhile, a number of traders and businessmen whose families have no secure life in the country are complaining that national unity government has not paid attention to their safety. According to report of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, nearly 80 traders and businessmen have been kidnapped across the country during the past one year. Kabul former police Chief Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi says crimes have increased in Kabul city, but they have also achievements in counter crime in the city.
A spokesperson to Afghanistan chamber of commerce and industries told that investment has reduced in Afghanistan due to increasing armed robberies and kidnappings. The people of Afghanistan are not safe too as armed robberies and kidnappings have recently increased particularly in Kabul city where big robberies and kidnappings are carried out by individuals wearing military uniform.
