Peace Negotiations With Armed Opponents Should Be An Afghan-led Process

Monday, April 8, 2013
Kabul (BNA) Since start of international mission in Afghanistan in 2001, government of Islamic republic of Afghanistan by seeking cooperation of the nation and global community utilized all available sources in persuading the armed insurgents and their counterparts to endorse constitution, denounce violence and attend the negotiation table.
Defying these generous and humanitarian slogans chanted by the government of Afghanistan over the previous decade, the insurgent Taliban never bothered to positively react to these demands and in contradiction to these slogans, the Taliban responded with suicide bombings and terror attacks. It`s a bitter fact that neighboring countries have always struggled to interfere into internal affairs of Afghanistan and for this purpose these players restored to all sort of negative and inhuman activities to expand war and stability in the country attain their political ambitions. At the same time, High Peace Council (HPC) which was formed in accordance to the demand of the people of Afghanistan has also accomplished major tasks on way of restoring peace and convincing the Taliban to attend negotiation table, but it’s very regrettable that the Taliban never responded to these efforts positively that could lay the foundation of durable peace and security in the war stricken country. Political commentators in the country believe that until the warring factions weren’t prepared to restore peace and security in the country, one sided efforts will not be proved productive and the analysts emphasize that peace negotiations with the warring factions and government armed insurgents should be moved forward by the Afghans and it should be totally an Afghan-led process. Here is quite significant to realize that international community mainly the UN as a neutral international body should ensure its contribution in this sphere and convince the warring factions to endorse peace talks so that the people of Afghanistan as main victim of war and violence breath in peace and the country get rid of the ongoing challenges and future crisis. At meantime, political analysts believe that if neighboring countries particularly Pakistan play sincere role on way of peace talks, soon durable peace and security will be installed in Afghanistan and such an approach support these countries to further expand their economic, political and bilateral relations and use the opportunity in favor of prosperity of their respect people and countries. So role of these countries mainly Pakistan on restoration of longstanding peace in Afghanistan is considered decisive and the world should remember that stability in Afghanistan assures global security. Meanwhile, nationals of the country believe that Pakistan has always pursued double standard policy with respect to Afghanistan. Because the neighboring country has always pledged to contribute in restoration of peace and security in Afghanistan, but in practical manner, Pakistan never took measures to prove its sincerity and trustworthy and over the last 10 years the insurgent Taliban and their terrorist counterparts have formulated their terror conspiracies beyond borders of Afghanistan in Pakistani soil and made carnage inside the cities of Afghanistan. Afghanistan has always enjoyed brotherly relations with international community and asks the neighboring Pakistan to play positive role in this respect. Afghanistan has rendered heavy sacrifices on way of combating global terrorism and now with consideration of threats of terrorism, international community and neighboring countries should seriously and sincerely support Afghanistan to restore durable peace and security to ensure global stability and security. This is while major world countries same as the United States had undertaken series of measures to support Afghanistan on way of restoring peace and security in the country. But is spite of international efforts, role neighboring Pakistan considered destiny making in this sphere.
