Afghanistan Seeks Hosting ECO Conference

Kabul (BNA) Afghanistan is expected to host the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)’s member countries, a statement from the Chief Executive office said Tuesday.
Chaired by Chief Executive, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Council of Ministers (CMs) discussing some key issues related to the agendas, asked the ministers of economy, finance, commerce and foreign affairs to work jointly to provide the ground for hosting the ECO member countries’ conference in Kabul.
The plan was made, after the ministry of economy suggested that under its efforts, Afghanistan could gain membership of the wide regional development and economic organizations membership and has active presence right now, the statement said.
Issues related to security and stability of the country were among the agendas presented by the minister of interior and deputy national defense minister as saying, “The enemies of the country are being suppressed everywhere in the country, particularly in the north and southern zones.”
“Daesh in Kot district of the eastern province of Nangarhar had been treated serious blow through special operations launched by security forces in the province, where hundreds of militants have been killed or wounded,” said the ministry of interior.
Faiz Mohammad Usmani, Minister of Hajj and Islamic Affairs presented report about his ministry’s fiscal year’s activities and future plan, said the statement quoting the minister as going on to say, some $10 million have been saved this year and besides this, over 21 million Afghanis have been collected from the pilgrims for the Red Crescent Society.
“24,000 Hajis have been helped receive computerized passports and 135,000 meters of floors have been provided to the countrywide mosques,” said the minister adding last year, his ministry succeeded to spend 84 percent of his development budget and 93 percent of its ordinary budget mostly used in capacity building of the religious scholars and building a number of small and congregational mosques around the country.
CE, Dr. Abdullah vowed to do more for the ministry of hajj and capacity development of the religious scholars and said suggestions from the ministry should timely be met, according to the statement.
Dr. Kamal Sadat, Acting Minister of Information and Culture also provided the meeting with report about his ministry’s activities as saying his ministry has totally scheduled 148 plans, with 129 of them completed, 12 due to be completed and the remaining seven would be kicked off soon, the statement continued.
The CE after hearing all about the activities of the ministry of information and culture lauded the ministry’s hard work and said the ministry should provide all inclusive report about the Miss-e-Ainak treasuries and other historical monuments and present to the next meeting in order to take effective step for protection of the historical heritages, said the statement.
Dr. Abdullah heard the report presented by the government minister on the parliamentary affairs, Ghulam Nabi Farahi about his office activities to have provided full coordination between the government and the parliament, through planning some 15 national legislations and seven international documents which have been passed by the house of people, and said coordination has been increased between the government and the parliament through a special efforts by the government minister on the parliamentary affairs and in general as a result of efforts from both legislative and executive forces [the parliament and the government], resulting in several meeting to be held between the two sides.
The CE tasked the ministry of agriculture to provide its plans about future activities and present to the high economic council in the future, and tasked the ministry of counternarcotics to provide a practical plan and arrange the implementable programs and share with the foreign partners and donor nations.
