Land Grabbing Still A Major Challenge, Minister

Kabul (BNA) Minister of Justice Abdul Basir Anwar, during a press conference here yesterday at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC) presented his ministry’s three-year report of activities, saying land grabbing by powerful figures was still a major challenge before government.
The minister meanwhile said inroads into resolving land grabbing problems had been made by the ministry and so far more than 36 thousands of hectares of state-owned landswere prevented from being usurped and 69 million of USD were saved for government.
“During the three years of the National Unity Government, we have prevented powerful individuals from grabbing of 36 thousands hectares of state-owned land and we have defended numerous claims,” the Minister told the press briefing on Saturday.
He went on saying that they have also saved land and property worth over $609 million USD, more than 2.4 billion Afs during this period.
According to the minister 65 political parties and 2940 social associations were also registered in the ministry in last three years.
