Communication Companies Still Facing Challenges, Mohaqiq

Kabul (BNA) Second Deputy to Chief Executive, Mohammad Mohaqiq said that telecommunication sector has had considerable growth in Afghanistan, Bakhtar News Agency (BNA) reported.
In a ceremony held yesterday to mark 17th World Telecommunications Day, Mohaqiq said, ‘based on Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) statistics, Afghanistan annually receives $200million through the sector,’ the report further said.
Besides considerable growth, the sector is faced with security threats and the issue will be discussed in National Security Council (NSC) meeting, Mohaqiq pointed out.
Since the beginning of the current year, 440 pylons have been distributed by the companies, but still a number of provinces are not connected with fiber optic, Mohaqiq added.  
Afterwards, the message of President’s Special Representative on Reforms and Good Governance, Ahmad Zia Massoud was read out in the ceremony.
Improving technology and telecommunications has caused economy growth in the country, as the ground is paved for investments since 2002, the message said.
Calling telecommunications and information technology as the greatest investment in the country, the message added that 20,000,000 people are now using cellphones.
98 percent of the country’s soil is under the coverage of telecommunications, Baryalai Hessam, Deputy MICT said. 
Currently, 25 million of people are using cellphones and two million are using internet services, Hessam further said.
The day was marked while many communication companies are now operational in Afghanistan, but the people are not satisfied with their call rates.
