Jalalabad (BNA) A high-ranking official delegation from Kabul has arrived in eastern Nangarhar province to try to broker a peace agreement between two warring tribes.
Led by Assadullah Wafa, the complaint office head at the presidential palace, the delegation included Maulvi Arsala Rahmani, Haji Naeem Koshai, Maulavi Shahzada, Dr. Akram Khpalwak and Qayum Karzai, the Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said.
He said the delegation would make efforts at seeking a permanent solution to the dispute between the two rival tribes Alishir Khel and Sepai.
The conflict over a land dispute in the Achin and Spinghar districts had claimed several lives, forcing the authorities to launch a military operation against the two tribes.
Many people were killed and wounded in the operation.
Wafa promised staying in Nangarhar until the dispute was resolved.
A tribal elder from Sepai tribe, Mohammad Osman, said they would share their part of the story with the visiting delegation of the two-year long conflict.
He said they had high expectations from the body. “We have heard about the arrival of a government delegation, which will be meeting us”, said, Mullah Jan Shinwari, an elder of the Alisher Khel tribe.
Shinwari said the delegation would be able to find an acceptable solution to the dispute.
