Kabul (BNA) Up to 17 historical relics taken from smugglers in the country’s central Bamyan province, were handed over to Minister of Information and Culture, Hasina Safi the other day, Bakhtar News Agency reported.
The agency quoting the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said a group of smugglers were trying to take the historical artifacts abroad, but the personnel of the NDS found them in Bamyan province and returned to the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC).
The objects dated back to the 12 century, according to Fahim Rahimi, the Director of National Museum of Afghanistan.
Nearly 15,000 historical relics have so far been returned to the country and submitted to the Ministry of Information and Culture, the agency added.
Speaking on the occasion, the acting minister said historical relics introduce the country’s national identity and the efforts of the NDSs personnel were appreciated to seize the historical objects from smugglers and submitted to the ministry.
“The NDS personnel not only defend the country’s territorial integrity, but prevent smuggling of historical and ancient relics,” said the acting minister. The found ancient relics have been submitted to the National Museum, said the agency.
