Key Issues Discussed In High Immigration Commission Meeting

Kabul (BNA) Presided over by Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, a session of high immigration commission was held yesterday here in Kabul.
In the session held at the Presidential Palace and attended by Second Vice President, Sarwar Danesh and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, minister of refugees and repatriates Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi briefed related to executions and suggestion of the previous session. Balkhi said that bilateral and trilateral sessions were held with Pakistan and Iran, adding that in bilateral session with Pakistan a MoU related to Afghan refugees has been finalized, while a decision has been made in trilateral session related to extension of Afghan refugees up to two more years in Pakistan. He also said they agreed with UN Habitat related to supporting 1000 domestic families of Nangarhar, Herat and Kabul, adding that a four-day workshop related to the strategic plan of refugees was also held at beginning of August.
Balkhi further said that for execution of their future plans and agreements, Iran and Pakistan asked for voluntarily repatriation policy of Afghan refugees. He said that their strategic plan was encompassing assessment and analyzing, management of refugees and measures for capacity building. Following, President Ghani while praising officials of ministry for refugees and repatriates for the strategic plan said that the plan should be clear and the ministry should focus on its capacities and estimate its financial needs for execution of the plan. In the session, it was also decided that council of ministers should discuss and review execution of the plan. President Ghani further said that role of ministry for refugees and repatriates needed further clarity and based on the plan there should be a clear policy till end of the current year in order to pave a legal base for maintaining of the plan. The country’s president added that repatriation of refugees was unpredictable; therefore, all ministries should have preparations for emergency conditions.
