Swearing-In Ceremony for Pakistan’s New Cabinet

ISLAMABAD (BNA): The newly appointed cabinet members of Pakistan were sworn in under the watchful eye of President Asif Ali Zardari. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Presidential House in Islamabad a day prior.

The new cabinet, formed by the Pakistan Muslim League, includes prominent figures such as Khawaja Asif, the former defense minister; Ishaq Dar, the former finance minister; Ehsan Iqbal, the former planning and development minister; and Azam Nazir.

Notably, Shahbaz Sharif, the former prime minister, also holds a position in the new cabinet, serving now as the foreign minister.
Additional members of the new cabinet include Alam Khan, Khalid Maqbul Siddiqi, Fatima Khwaja, Mohsen Reza Naqvi, and Kamal Khan. However, the cabinet list under Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is not yet finalized.

The People’s Party, a part of the new coalition government, has yet to announce its cabinet members.

The new cabinet, led by Shahbaz Sharif, is expected to tackle a range of issues in its first meeting, including the economic crisis, power shortages, security concerns, strained relations with neighboring countries, and other challenges facing Pakistan.

The parliamentary elections in Pakistan took place on February 8 of this year. None of the parties were able to secure a majority in the parliamentary seats.

Consequently, the Muslim League, the People’s Party, and four other parties formed a coalition government, electing Shahbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister.
