Acting Foreign Minister and Russian Special Envoy Discuss Bilateral Ties and Doha Meeting

KABUL (BNA) Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with Zamir Kabulov, the Special Envoy of the President of Russia for Afghanistan, in Kabul today.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Afghanistan and Russia, as well as discussing the upcoming Doha meeting on Afghanistan.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in constructive discussions pertaining to bilateral issues and regional considerations.

Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Russia’s supportive stance towards the Islamic Emirate in various regional and international forums.

He called for further enhancement of political and trade relations between the two countries, emphasizing that Afghanistan’s relations with regional nations were expanding, with active embassies established in nearly all neighboring countries.

Muttaqi emphasized that Afghanistan would express its position on the Doha meeting after receiving sufficient clarification regarding its agenda and composition.

Zamir Kabulov, the Special Envoy of the President of Russia, voiced the importance of obtaining the Afghan government’s agreement for any meeting hosted in Afghanistan.

He emphasized that the upcoming Doha meeting required Afghanistan’s consent to yield fruitful results.

Kabulov further urged countries to maintain their relations with the Afghan government through bilateral solutions instead of imposing unilateral sanctions.

The Special Envoy of the President of Russia emphasized the need for improved coordination between Afghanistan and Russia and expressed hope that the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan would visit Russia during the current year, thereby strengthening ties between the two nations.
