VP Danesh Stresses Effective Works of NGOs in Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA)   Second Vice President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Sarwar Danesh, met with Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR) head, Lisa Piper, here in his office yesterday, a statement said.

During the meeting, both sides discussed about the effective activities of NGOs in Afghanistan and creating the necessary transparency in providing services to these institutions, as well as the new draft of the NGO Law, according to press office of the second vice president.

VP Danesh praised the role of NGOs in providing services to the people of Afghanistan, and stressed that NGOs activities should be effective. The Vice President also emphasized the need to create transparency in the activities of NGOs, adding that the Afghan government and donor countries consider and emphasize transparency as a fundamental principle for the effectiveness of NGOs in Afghanistan.

The Vice President also stated that strengthening the capacity of government departments is an urgent necessity for the Government of Afghanistan and that NGOs should try to implement the necessary cooperation with government in this regard.

Regarding the new draft of the NGO Law, VP Danesh said the draft is under the work of the relevant ministries, and NGOs can share their technical views.

Meanwhile, Lisa Piper, head ACBAR also stressed that the humanitarian activities of the NGOs should be implemented in accordance with the priorities of the Government of Afghanistan. He said that in providing NGO services to the people of Afghanistan, the real needs of the people should be focused on in order to provide the necessary impact on the results of NGO activities.

Piper also shared her views with the Vice President on some draft articles of the NGO Law.
