28 Civilians Dead as Gold Mine Collapses in N. Afghanistan

Faizabad City (BNA) At least 28 civilians lost their lives when a gold mine collapsed in northern Badakhshan province yesterday.
Mahbob Rahman member of provincial council in Badakhshan told BNA correspondent, the civilians searching for gold that gold mine collapsed in Shapo village, Kohistan district of the province, in which 28 people lost their lives and eight others were wounded.
Afghanistan is a mountainous, land-locked nation that has huge, largely untouched reserves of copper, iron ore, chromite, mercury, zinc, gems, including rubies and emeralds, as well as gold and silver.
