NSA Mohib Meets His Russian Counterpart

Kabul (BNA) During his visit to Moscow, Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, National Security Advisor of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, yesterday, a statement said. Both national security advisers discussed prospects for increased co-operation in the fields of peace, security, counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics between the two governments, including increasing consultations between the two ministries, the statement from NSA press office said yesterday. Both sides agreed that increasing insecurity in northern Afghanistan could pose a threat to the country, Russia and Central Asian countries.

The Afghan and Russian national security advisers also stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, the start of peace talks, the end of the war and the existence of an independent, sovereign and self-sufficient Afghanistan, according to the statement.

The two sides, according to the statement, announced their joint readiness to support and strengthen common security goals in the region.
