Monday Earthquake Injured 31 People in Paktika

PAKTIKA (BNA) 31 people were injured and hundreds of houses were destroyed, in Monday’s earthquake in the districts of Gayan and Zerok of Paktika.

The provincial director of Information and Culture Paktika, Mohammad Ameen Huzaifa, says that 31 people, including children and women in injured in the incident in two districts of the province.

Mr. Huzaifa said dozens of houses have collapsed in the district, but the exact number is not specified so far.

Meanwhile, local residents say the earthquake shook Gayan from late Monday noon to 10 pm.

They say a terrible sound could be heard from the ground in the said village, which caused a bad mental situation to citizens in the site.

They called on the central government to send a geological team to the area to investigate.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund expressed his deepest regrets and vowed any government cooperation for the suffered people of the southeast.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Baradar tasked all relevant government organs to reach out to those who are in urgent need of help at the sites.
