Govt. Committed to Protect Afghan Women Achievements, President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met yesterday with a number of women rights activists and women working in private sector and various government institutions. In the meeting attended by the country’s First Lady, increasing role of women in political, economic and social sectors and their empowerment were discussed. Participants in the meeting said that due to attention of the country’s President, presence of women has increased for the past five years in all sectors including political, education, higher education, social freedoms and decision-making levels of the government, but saying it was necessary that such achievements were not ignored in peace talks. Women rights activists asserted that lots of laws on supporting women rights have been codified in the past few years as the government has paid serious attention to empowerment of women in the country.
After hearing their visions and suggestions, the country’s President said that his main duty was to pay attention to women rights and their freedoms in employment, trade, education and higher education to protect role and position of women in the country. The country’s President added that their efforts in the field of peace were comprehensive and as long as he had the responsibility, he would not accept any deal that could harm the women rights. Asking all women of the country for widely participation in the upcoming presidential elections, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that women should play their effective role in all political, economic and social sectors.
