MoIC Boost Efforts Extracting Historical Relics Amid the Start of Mes Aynak Mining

The Mes Aynak (copper) mining contract had been signed between the Ministry of Mines and the MCC China Company years back during the previous government, and the contractor was supposed to start practical work for the mine for at least another year, but security, technical challenges and extraction of historical relics are the main reason for the delay.

The chief security unit of the Mes Anyak (copper) mine, assured the contractor company of the security said they could securely start the extraction process from this mine without any security tensions.

The Mes Aynak Logar copper parts was once on the Silk Road, and Buddhists from all around the world use to came for visits, and it was one of the most prosperous Buddhist cities for thousands of years.

Excavations work first started from this copper mine in 1960s, and years later archaeologists were able to find Buddhist objects in the area, but no excavations were carried out in the Buddhist city until 2009.

Unique ancient relics from this area have been found since 2009.

These historical relics include Buddhist shrines, monks’ houses’ chambers, and about 600 large Buddha statues the size of Bamyan idols also exist amid this copper mine.

Manuscripts written on animal skins are also found in the antiquities of the Mes Aynak’s mine.

These manuscript are said to be the firstborn Buddhist works, but the discovery of the Bronze Aged city, which is said to be hidden beneath the Buddhist city, adds to the area’s ancient antiquity; However, Bronze relics have already been discovered in Afghanistan.
