President Karzai, Ali Rehman Discuss Economic, Trade And Transit Issues

Kabul (BNA) In an official invitation of Imam Ali Rehman President of Tajikistan, President Hamid Karzai is in a two-day visit of that country.


President Karzai and his accompanying delegation were given a warm welcome by Tajikistan President Imam Ali Rehman at the Tajikistan Millat Palace in presence of around 30 ambassadors of foreign countries.


At the meeting the two presidents discussed economic, trade, transit and security cooperation between the two nations and struggle against common security threats on the borders, narcotics and other regional issues.
At the meeting President Karzai appreciating the official invitation of President Imam Ali Rehman said, “Tajikistan is not only Afghanistan’s neighbor, but is a very close friend and the relations between the two nations have been considerably improved during the last twelve years and we are committed to further expand these friendly ties and cooperation.” In their meetings the Afghan and Tajik authorities once again pledged their commitment towards regional peace and stability and further cooperation and expressed readiness in this respect.


At the end of the meeting, the presidents of the two countries issued a joint statement aimed at development of bilateral ties.
The joint statement alongside other issues emphasizes on joint struggle against terrorism, extremism, narcotics smuggling and organized crimes and pledged continued cooperation between the security forces on the two nations’ borders.
Meanwhile, while Tajikistan Prime Minister Aqil Aqilov was accompanying him, President Karzai laid a bouquet of flowers on the memorial monument of Ismayel Samani.


Moreover, President Karzai yesterday afternoon met with speaker of Tajik parliament Shukorjan Zuhurov and some parliament members.
At the meeting held at Tajikistan parliament headquarters, the participants emphasized on expansion of cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.
