Healthcare Requires Govt., Donors’ Urgent Attention, President Ghani

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Ministry of Public Health officials and the representatives of the donor organizations here in Arg the other day, a statement from Presidential palace said, adding that the meeting discussed the improvement of the healthcare systems in the country.
In the meeting, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz and representatives of the donor organizations presented their proposals to the president on accountability, transparency and improvement of the healthcare systems.
After hearing the proposals and problems, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that the main focus of the government and the donors should be on improvement of healthcare systems in the country, adding that transparency, accountability and standards have not been considered while hiring doctors and despite of the problems, the healthcare related contracts are still being extended. President Ghani added that the government of Afghanistan along with its international donors should find ways for improvement of healthcare systems, saying that all the people of Afghanistan demanding reformation and improvement in health sector.
The president asked MoPH and the international organizations working for health sector to review the recruitment process of doctors, accountability, transparency, reward and punishment procedures in health systems and bring reforms in such a way that not only achievements be saved, but the healthcare systems also be improved.
