Muttaqi, Iranian FM Discussed Afghan Refugees’Issues

KABUL (BNA) Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of IEA, talked over a phone call about the living situation of Afghan refugees with Foreign Minister of Iranian, Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

Both sides discussed the situation of Afghan refugees, bilateral ties and economic issues, the IEA’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

The statement added that both sides stressed that some circles are trying to use the media to create hatred between the Afghan and Iranian governments.

Mawlawi Muttaqi vowed not to allow anyone to harm the friendly ties between the two countries.

During the talks, the Iranian Foreign Minister praised the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, a recent decree banning narcotics, and pledged to work with Afghan agriculturists to create alternative livelihoods.

The talks between the two sides come at a time when there has been a recent surge of harassment and beatings of Afghan refugees in Iran.

After 20 years of occupation, the US withdrew its forces from Afghanistan and froze billions of dollars in Afghan money, which damaged the country’s economy and forced thousands of Afghans to flee the country.
