Wednesday, October 24, 2012
Kabul (BNA) The foreign minister of Afghanistan has rejected the remarks on the Durand Line.
“The issue of Durand Line is historically important for the people of Afghanistan and any remark on its legal status is irresponsible and rejected,” the foreign minister said.
The US special envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan Mark Grossman, according to media report has called for recognition of Durand Line as international border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to Pakistani media reports, the US special envoy during his recent tour to Pakistan had agreed with Pakistani officials to establish a joint commission and encourage Taliban for talks.
Previous Afghan government in reaction with the reported dialogue between Taliban and US in Qatar had noted any peace talks should be led by Afghans.
Commenting on the subject, a lawmaker Salih Mohmmad Saljoki pointed out that any talks for peace in Afghanistan in the absence of Afghan government would not deliver.
Political observer Abdul Wahid Taqat also gave similar notion, saying not peace talks would yield the result if Afghan government is overlooked.
Meanwhile, the special envoy of UN Secretary General to Afghanistan has also called for intra-Afghan dialogue. However, the foreign ministry despite rejecting the bilateral commission between US and Pakistan stated any peace talks would end in fiasco if Afghanistan is ignored.
