President Ghani, Khalili Discuss National Consensus for Peace

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met prominent Political leader Ustad Karim Khalili at the Presidential Palace, a statement said yesterday.

Both sides discussed the current situation of the country, the national consensus and second round of peace talks to ensure lasting and dignified peace in the country, the presidential press office statement added.

This comes as Karim Khalili, head of Wahdat-i-Islami party did not attend High Council for National Reconciliation’s (HCNR) meeting on Saturday, citing his speech was censored in the council’s previous meetings.

The Council on Saturday stressed timely resumption of intra-Afghan talks, flexibility in stances and inclusion of more figures in the peace process. The HCNR came into being about seven months ago, but the first meeting of its leadership committee was held on November 26, and its second conference was held on Saturday.

The Intra-Afghan negotiations are scheduled to resume on January 5.
