Sunday March 19, 2017

Kabul (BNA) Freedom of speech and the growth of Media in the country is a great achievement in national level and this achievement owed to the creative work of journalists and public support.
BNA analyst of media affairs commenting on the issue writes March 17 celebrates as the day of journalists; this can be consider as valuing and glorifying the work of journalist who accepting all risks inform the people from the daily events of the country in this horrible situation of the country. Afghanistan is experiencing a nascent democracy that has started with freedom of speech as one of the most important pillars democracy and moving on the right direction. Enforcement of the law of accession to press further strengthened and accelerated the process. Freedom of speech and development of media in the country in spite all challenges and problems facing, is the result of devoted services of journalists who spare no any effort and devotion in that regard. Because of the heroic and the patriotic activities of journalists, they praised by the people across the country. Journalists and media have seen the most deadly incidents that even claimed the lives of some journalists during the last four decades. Currently journalists are facing the lack of safety in their daily working and this has imposed their activities to serious ambiguities, because, there is no any guaranty for protecting the lives of journalists or correspondents who provide storied from the battlefronts. In addition, the owners of media who have the authority of recruiting journalists, do not guaranty the stability of their works. While journalists and media staff in general serving with high commitment expect the support of people, government and public organizations. This expectation should be meeting and the working atmosphere of media and journalist should further improve.
On the other hand, media staff and journalists have certain moral responsibilities, before the public, they should obey them. Unfortunately, there are journalists and media that their activities are based on ethnical, linguistic and religious tendencies and forgotten the key principles of their jobs, while the work of media should be national and meet public requirements. The media and journalists can win the heart and mind of people and introduce press as the fourth power pillar in the society only when they meet their moral and patriotic commitments honestly and consciously in practice. In addition, it is to the state, social, civil society activists’ organs, and public in general further increase their support setting aside all political views from press and journalists.
