Kabul (BNA) Addressing a press conference together with Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, the Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Ahmad Jawad Osmani, briefed the media on ministry’s serious measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in the country.
The Minister of Public Health said that serious measures have been taken nationwide to prevent the second wave of the COVID-19 in the country. Dr. Osmani hinted on increasing the number of beds for the care and treatment of patients in health centers, adding that the number of beds for COVID-19 patients has increased from 966 to 2070. He also said that Kabul and provincial hospitals are now capable to do treatments for the COVID-19 patients.
The Minister of Public Health stated that in order to better manage the second wave of the Corona virus, five committees have been set up to fight the virus, and the functions of these committees will be evaluated on daily basis at the early morning meetings.
Minister Osmani went on saying that the plan to implement anti-coronavirus vaccine in the country has been prepared and by the end of 2021 about 20% of the country’s population will be vaccinated with the help of the World Bank and the Asian Bank.
The Minister of Public Health also called on the people to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Health in combating the second wave of the coronavirus and to observe wearing masks, washing hands and refraining from attending crowded places.
Meanwhile, Mawlawi Mohammad Qasem Halimi, Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs called it important to follow health tips to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He also said that due to the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus, Mosques will be directed to suspend holding Praying ceremonies.
