Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai has congratulated Pope Francis on his election as the leader of the Catholic Church.
Jorge Bergoglio, from Argentina was elected and takes name of Francis after accepting his election as 266th head of Catholic Church on Wednesday.
President Karzai hoped that the election of the new pope could further help promote dialogue and understanding among religions in the world.
President Karzai described as important the role that Pope can play in promoting peaceful coexistence among the followers of different faiths and wished him success in his endeavors to advance the cause of inter-religious dialogue and understanding for peace in the world.
