Agreement Signed To Build 50 Megawatt Gas Power Plant In Mazar-E-Sharif

Kabul (BNA) Agreement reached between Brishna Electricity Company and private sector to produce 51 megawatt of needed electricity for Mazar-e-Sharif city of Balkh Province, using the Sheberghan’s natural gas here in presence of the Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah here the other day, a statement said.
According to statement of the CE office, the project worth 175 million USD was signed between Ghazanfar Group with Financial support of the IFC branch of the World Bank.
Addressing the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah said that the project is key to Afghanistan’s economic development and self-sufficiency.
“Afghanistan has enough resources and opportunities in electricity production affairs, and sans no investment, Afghanistan would not reach to long-term development. There should be proper use of such resources and domestic and international investment would be pave the way for enrichment of energy sector and would pave the way for exporting of the electricity to abroad,” the Chief Executive Said. Thanking the World Bank for its assistance to Afghanistan, the Chief Executive said that Afghanistan has fulfilled most of its requirements through importing energy, but the country is still in dire need of electricity for its people in rural areas.
Meanwhile the IFC head told the ceremony that working process on the aforesaid project has begun since 18 months and called the project key to development of Afghanistan.
