President Ghani Mourns Death of Prince Philip

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani sent a message to Queen Elizabeth II to express his “deep condolences” on the death of her husband, Prince Philip.

“Prince Philip was one of the most important figures in the British royal family, who did a great service to his homeland and his people, especially in supporting athletes and young people, and the people of that country will always remember his works,” the president was quoted in a statement released by the presidential palace yesterday.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Afghanistan, I extend my deepest condolences to Queen Elizabeth II and the people of Britain,” the president said.

Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth, died at the age of 99, Buckingham Palace said on Friday.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the palace said in a statement.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
