MoPH Marks World Suicide Prevention Day

Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan observed the International Suicide Prevention day on Monday.
This is the tenth anniversary day of world suicide prevention. This day is celebrated by national and international NGOs in the world and the purpose is decreasing the number of suicide.
Dr. Najia Tariq deputy minister of Health care services provision for MoPH while calling the suicides as a social problem in Afghanistan said that there is no accurate and confirmed data available about number of deaths from suicide in Afghanistan but the broadcast of some medias and research of NGOs for example Media Afghanistan released in 2008 that the suicide is more in female than male.
This study which is conducted in Kabul, Herat and Wardak Provinces the findings are below.
She added that the attempt of suicide by female is mostly response against all from of violence which affects their personality.
The young ladies between ages 16 to 19 are more likely  to attempt suicide compare to other age group 95% of suicide are attempted by uneducated of less educated female. However, the rest 5% cases most probably causes accidently.
Approximately the 80% of people attempted suicide are married. The common age for single female to attempt suicide is age 14 year.
The common age for suicide totally in female is age 19 year.
“However during one year approximately 34 cases of suicide are registered with TABISH counseling centers and some of them have attempt suicide and some of them have the thought of suicide among those 28 were female and 6 were male clients “Dr. Tariq stated.
The reason which involved in these cases are the compulsory wedding, family violence, rape illegal relation, and the negative competition among families, poverty, scarcity and family responsibilities and mental problems, she concluded.
