President Hamid Karzai Meets Helmand Religious Scholars

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai met yesterday with some religious scholars and elders of Helmand province at the presidential palace. 
At the meeting Mohammad Anwar Khan spoke about his environmental problems and proposed upgrading of Helmand to first grade province, expansion of police structure, start of work on the Kajaki dam, resolving of dormitory students problems and construction of the Helmand University.
Following hearing of the proposals, president Karzai issued instruction to the interior affairs, higher education, education and energy and water ministers and head of the local organs department who were present at this meeting to undertake measures for resolving the problems of the province.
The president also explained issues pertaining to the security agreement with the US and peace process to the elders and religious scholars. 
He stressed that Afghanistan will continue efforts for lasting peace consolidation in the country, adding that talks with the US on the security agreement is continuing with seriousness and considering the national high interests and national sovereignty.
While emphasizing on the continuation of peace process, the Helmand elders said that the first and foremost need of the people is peace in the country.  They added that the Afghans will reach an agreement with the US when the US on security strives to eliminate all factors of war in Afghanistan and prepare the ground for a lasting peace here.
