Poppy Fields Wrecked in Helmand

KABUL (BNA) local police officials say hundreds of acres of poppy land were destroyed in four districts of Helmand province by the decree of Ameer ul Momineen.

Tens of acres of poppy fields were destroyed in Naw Zad, Washer, Babaji, and Marjah districts of Helmand province said a police spokesman to Bakhtar News Agency reporter.

Engineer Ahmad Jan Khalid, the spokesman for the police commander of Helmand, said by the decree of the supreme leader, hundreds of acres of poppy fields destroyed in the province so far.

He added so far police personnel have banned drug deals in Lashkargah, adding that a number of drug dealers have been arrested in the province.

Simultaneously, some farmers acknowledge poppy cultivation in Helmand, the detriment of common Afghans, and to the benefit of foreign and domestic drug traffickers.

They ask the international community to assist Afghan farmers in finding alternative livelihoods.

Helmand local officials are happy about bringing poppy opium cultivation, to zero in the near future in the province.

Lately, the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate ordered a decree that prohibited the dealing, using, and cultivation of poppy, not only in Helmand but across the country.
